One thing I want to touch on is the Instant Pot ham cooking time! How long to cook a ham in an Instant pot, you ask?

Well technically you will set the timer for only 4 minutes, but make sure that you account for a 10 minute natural release and the time it takes the Instant Pot to get pressurized.

But even then, that’s only about 35 minutes to make a whole 3-4 pound ham! Talk about a game changer.

After the ham is in the Instant Pot, place the lid on top and turn the valve to the “SEALING” position. Then, press the “MANUAL” or “PRESSURE COOK” or “HIGH PRESSURE” and set the timer for 4 minutes.

Instant Pot Honey Glazed Ham Recipe (8)

When the time runs out, you are going to let the Instant Pot do a natural release (not doing anything) for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, then move the valve to the “VENTING” position and let the rest of the pressure release.

Once the pin drops indicating that all of the pressure has been released, take the lid off the Instant Pot and remove the ham, put it on a serving dish and take the inner pot and pour the remaining sauce over top of the ham.

Now just serve and enjoy!

  1. Jess says:

Is there a way to make this if I don’t have a trivet for my instant pot? Thanks!! :)

  2. Vickie says:

I think you place a bowl in pot upside down to keep ham in foil above water.

  3. Cyd says:

Most instant pots come with a small trivet in the box. But don't worry, there are a lot of household items that you can use in place of a trivet. The old standby substitute for a trivet is the the metal lid of a large jar, but suitable substitutes can include stainless steel cookie cutters, a screen from the food mill, an upside down ceramic or stainless steel bowl, a steamer basket, and even a real trivet that is just the right size can go from the table and into the cooker! Here is a link for more ideas. https://missvickie.com/alternative-trivet-in-a-pressure-cooker/

  4. Tammy says:

If you xant find your trivia place balls of aluminum foil in the instant pot and a ball in center works great!

  5. Ginger Alexander says:

How long would I cook a bone in ham?

  6. Jayne says:

You don’t mention it in the preparation but I would presume that you would slice the ham before putting it in the instant pot, the only question I have is do you slice it all the way through or just enough to let the glacé sip in

  7. Janice says:

Anything you can put in the oven you can use. I do it all the time.

  8. Momma Cyd says:

We used a spiral sliced ham, so it was sliced most of the way through. Then all those yummy flavors can soak in.

  9. Michelle says:

Does a bone in spiral ham work? Different cooking time?

  10. Momma Cyd says:

Bone in spiral ham will work, just be sure it fits in your pot. Cooking time will be the same.

  11. Michelle says:

Thank you! Did a Walmart order and they gave me an 11 pound ham. If this fits in my IP, would the cook time change?

  12. Ashlee W says:

I'm interested in this as well, as the same happened to me!!

  13. Momma Cyd says:

    Cook time is the same.

  14. Stephanie says:

Can I use a boneless ham that is all my grocery store had

  15. Momma Cyd says:

Yes, boneless ham will work great too.

  16. Carrie W. says:

I love this recipe. i was wondering though, could it be made with Splenda Brown Sugar?

  17. Momma Cyd says:

Just use half a cup of Splenda Brown Sugar Blend for every full cup of brown sugar called for. You can use it anywhere you would use brown sugar; baked goods, sauces, beverages, and more.

  18. Linda Murray says:

My family really loves this ham recipe, and it was so easy to make 😋

FAQs

How do you heat up a fully cooked ham in the instant pot? ›

How long do you cook a ham in the Instant Pot? Spiral Sliced ham is already precooked so you only need to warm the ham through. Cook your ham for 2 minutes per pound on high pressure plus 10 Minutes to the total time to account for foil. This will warm the ham through perfectly and keep the ham from drying out.

Do you put the glaze on a ham before you cook it or after you cook it? ›

The glaze should not be applied until the final hour to 30 minutes, in order to avoid burning the sugars. What you're going to do with the glaze ingredients is just combine most of them into a paste, and then apply it to the ham. After that, the heat in your oven will take care of everything.

How long to cook a 3 lb fully cooked ham? ›

Allow 20 minutes per pound when calculating how long to bake a fully cooked ham. For example, if the ham weighs 8 pounds, the cooking time would be 2 hour and 40 minutes. A fully cooked half ham will weigh approximately 3 to 4 pounds. Cooking time for a 3 pound ham would be 1 hour.

How to cook a pre made honey baked ham? ›

Serving Instructions

We recommend that you do not heat Honey Baked Hams® - they are made to enjoy right from the refrigerator. If you prefer your meat warmed, gently heat on low heat 275°F for 10 min per pound only by the slice, do not heat the entire ham. Heating may cause the meat to dry out and lose flavor.

How do you cook a ham that is already fully cooked? ›

Bake in a preheated 325F oven for 10-14 minutes per pound, or until a meat thermometer registers 135F. Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes before serving. If the ham came with extra glaze, follow the package directions for adding it and cooking the glaze.

How do you heat up a precooked ham without drying it out? ›

Arrange slices in a single layer on a greased baking pan. Add a couple of tablespoons of broth or water and cover with foil. Bake for about 10 minutes or until heated through, turning slices once.

How do you heat a fully cooked ham with glaze? ›

For hams that are fully cooked (again, check the label) and not spiral sliced, first cut off any skin. Score the through the fat layer, making diamond crosshatch marks. Place in a 325-to-350-degree oven, brush with some glaze if desired and bake until heated through and the internal temperature reaches 135 degrees.

How do you use the glaze packet that comes with the ham? ›

Glazing: Empty contents of the glaze packet into a small saucepan. Add 22 mL (1 1/2 tbsp) warm water. Heat glaze mixture on high, stirring constantly, until glaze begins to boil. Remove immediately from heat.

Do you glaze a ham covered or uncovered? ›

After the ham has cooked for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, brush the surface with some of the glaze. Then pop it back into the oven, uncovered, for another 20 minutes or so.

How should I warm up a fully cooked ham? ›

Wrap the ham tightly with the foil and bake at 300 F for about 15 minutes per pound, or until a meat thermometer registers 140 F when inserted into the thickest part of the meat, not touching bone. If you have a large enough slow cooker, put the ham in it and add about 1 cup of ginger ale, cola, stock, or water.

How long does it take to warm up a ham that is fully cooked? ›

To reheat a spiral-sliced ham in a conventional oven, cover the entire ham or portion with heavy aluminum foil and heat at 325 °F for about 10 minutes per pound.

Can you put foil in Instant Pot? ›

Originally Answered: Is it safe to cook with aluminum foil on top of a pot when using an electric pressure cooker (e.g., Instant Pot)? On top of a pot inside the pressure cooker? Perfectly safe-I do it all the time. Don't put anything on top of the pressure cooker itself though.

Can you heat up a precooked ham? ›

Both whole or half, cooked, vacuum-packaged hams packaged in federally inspected plants and canned hams can be eaten cold, right out of the package. However, if you want to reheat these cooked hams, set the oven no lower than 325 °F and heat to an internal temperature of 140 °F as measured with a food thermometer.
